Iran Responds to U.S. Nuclear Deal Proposal, Emphasizing National Interests

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei provided details on Iran's stance regarding the nuclear deal proposal recently presented by the United States.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at a press briefing, Baghaei clarified that receiving the U.S. proposal does not imply Iran's approval or acceptance of its terms, noting that exchanging texts is a routine part of international negotiations. He stressed that Iran's response will be carefully considered and grounded in national principles and interests.

The proposal was delivered to Iran by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi during a brief visit to Tehran, as confirmed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Araghchi indicated on social media that Iran will respond appropriately, taking into account the country's principles, national interests, and the rights of its people.

The U.S. and Iran have engaged in five rounds of nuclear talks since April 12, 2025, with the aim of reaching a new agreement amid longstanding disagreements over uranium enrichment levels. The talks have been mediated by Oman, and the U.S. proposal reportedly includes measures such as ceasing uranium enrichment and establishing a regional consortium for nuclear power under international monitoring.

Baghaei emphasized that any proposal must be thoroughly reviewed and that Iran’s reply will reflect its commitment to safeguarding its national interests. The ongoing negotiations continue against a backdrop of heightened tensions and complex geopolitical dynamics in the region.
