The handicraft sector provides employment opportunities for young artists and promotes the economic development in targeted societies.

Iran (IMNA) - Handicrafts are matchless and beautiful advertising tools to represent the rich culture, tradition, and heritage of Iran. Handicraft sector is one of the promising and productive body in Iranian economy which is directly related to the foreign capital inflow to the Iranian economy and considered as an effective source of foreign exchange earnings. Handicrafts promote the heritage of a country through the use of indigenous materials. Handicrafts are the expression of history and culture of a country so governments must encourage artists to continue the craft production to show the beauty of this art.

Evidences have shown the growing foreign markets for Iranian handicrafts as the country has gained export competitiveness in the international market.  Iranian handicraft items range from inlaid wooden artworks, Kalamkari, carpet, rug, metal works and countless artistic designs.

"Promoting the status of handicrafts in Iran, strengthening communication among artists arouand the world and supporting the industry could lead to income generation while preserving the heritage of the past. Fortunately, nowadays the status of the industry is excelled in Iran not only as an important part of the cultural life of societies, but as a decisive element in the economic life of nations," said Ali asghar Moonesan, the head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization.

"Iran is among the three global handicraft powers that leads the industry in the world. It has national and international experiences in this regard and has enjoyed the first place in having global handicraft cities and villages in the world," he added.

June 10 marks the World Handicrafts Day; the occasion provide the best opportunity to appreciate and honor Iranian artists who make every effort to introduce Iran's rich art culture to the world.
