US attacks on civilian infrastructure resemble terrorist groups' actions

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has condemned recent US attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran, saying the actions are reminiscent of the behavior of terrorist groups.

Iran (IMNA) - In a post on his X account, Baghaei said the Chabahar Maritime Surveillance Tower, a civilian facility dedicated to maritime safety and navigation, was deliberately targeted by the United States on June 16 as part of what he described as the country's ongoing aggression that began on February 28.

He said the US Secretary of War had proudly released footage showing the collapse of the tower, adding that, had he been able, he would likely have also broadcast the missile strike on a school in Minab and the killing of civilians in Lamerd with the same sense of pride.

Baghaei further claimed that the United States attacked power facilities and desalination pumps at the Bunji village pier in Jask, leaving more than 10,000 residents without access to drinking water.

"For a State that once cast itself as the global champion of order, liberalism, and the war on terrorism, proudly displaying images of destroyed bridges and civilian infrastructure has become its only remaining victory," he wrote.

The spokesperson argued that the destruction of bridges, towers and other civilian facilities represents not only physical damage but also the erosion of "America's moral standing," as well as the international legal order and what he described as the West's civilizational claims.

Baghaei concluded by questioning what he said was the distinction between US actions in Chabahar, Minab, Lamerd and Jask and the acts of terrorism that Washington had previously cited to justify its military interventions and occupations.
