Iran Rules Out IAEA Inspections of Damaged Nuclear Sites, Says FM Spokesman

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has announced that there are no plans for inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit Iran’s damaged peaceful nuclear facilities.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at his weekly press briefing on Tuesday, Baghaei said Iran has not held any meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and has no program for inspections of nuclear facilities damaged as a result of what he described as U.S. and Israeli aggression.

He stated that there is currently no protocol or mechanism for such inspections, adding that Iran will continue its existing procedures in accordance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Responding to U.S. claims regarding the start of nuclear negotiations and the possible deployment of inspectors to Tehran, Baghaei rejected the assertions as unfounded.

The spokesman also addressed the recent resolution adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors, thanking countries that, in his words, acted responsibly and did not cooperate with the United States and European states.

He praised Russia, China, and Niger for voting against the resolution, describing their position as responsible, while criticizing countries that supported the measure and saying such double standards are unacceptable.

On Iran’s blocked assets, Baghaei stressed that Tehran will determine how to use any unfrozen funds and that there will be no restrictions in this regard.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he referred to the ceasefire in Lebanon, saying it has been included in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States. He added that there is no justification for continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

Describing the Israel-Hezbollah conflict as a complex issue, Baghaei said final arrangements are expected soon and argued that the United States is obligated to compel Israel to halt its attacks on southern Lebanon.
