Iran (IMNA) - The meeting between the two top diplomats was held prior to Thursday’s session of talks. During their discussions, Iran’s positions and considerations regarding the nuclear issue, as well as the removal of what Tehran describes as the US’s illegal and unilateral sanctions, were outlined. Araghchi emphasized that the success of the negotiations depends on the seriousness of the other side and its avoidance of contradictory behavior and positions. He also thanked his Omani counterpart for his efforts in facilitating and advancing the diplomatic process.
For his part, Al-Busaidi commended Iran’s steadfast commitment to a diplomatic approach on the nuclear matter. He underscored Oman’s readiness to continue offering its good offices and any necessary assistance, expressing hope that mutual seriousness from all parties would result in an outcome satisfactory to both sides.
Araghchi had arrived in Geneva several hours before the meeting. Prior to his departure, he reiterated that a “fair, balanced, and equitable deal” with the United States was achievable. In an interview with India Today, he noted that the previous round of negotiations had produced some progress and certain understandings, stating, “We can build something in the form of an agreement” based on those developments.
He further said that Iran is prepared to clarify any questions or ambiguities regarding its peaceful nuclear energy program to counter recurring allegations by Washington and its allies that Tehran is diverting its nuclear activities toward military purposes.
These remarks come amid intensified rhetoric from US President Donald Trump, who has escalated his warlike statements regarding Iran and ordered a significant military buildup in the West Asia region, including areas surrounding the Islamic Republic. The United States has deployed two aircraft carriers along with numerous warplanes and missile systems to the region.
Araghchi, however, stressed that “There is no military option for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program,” adding that while Iran’s Armed Forces are fully prepared, “the aim is to prevent a war.”
“When you are prepared for a war, you can prevent it,” he stated.
