Iran, Switzerland Foreign Ministers Review Progress of Indirect Iran–US Nuclear Talks

As the second round of indirect Iran–US nuclear negotiations continues in Geneva, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held talks with his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis, focusing on the latest developments in the negotiations.

Iran (IMNA) - Araghchi met Cassis on Tuesday afternoon during his visit to Switzerland, where he is attending diplomatic consultations and taking part in the second round of indirect Iran–US nuclear talks being held in Geneva.

During the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister expressed appreciation for the Swiss government’s arrangements in hosting the negotiations. He briefed Cassis on the discussions held over the past two days, describing the talks as “very serious and focused.”

According to Araghchi, the two sides have reached a general understanding on a set of guiding principles that will serve as a framework for drafting detailed provisions in future sessions, both on sanctions relief and nuclear-related issues.

The two diplomats also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the continuation of what was described as the colonial genocide of Palestinians.

Araghchi underscored the importance of all governments adhering to the rule of law and respecting the principles and norms outlined in the Charter of the United Nations and international law. He warned against the consequences of normalizing violations of international rules and standards.

Cassis, for his part, welcomed the holding of the indirect Iran–US negotiations in Geneva and reiterated Switzerland’s readiness to assist in any diplomatic process that leads to a mutually acceptable solution to the Iranian nuclear issue and helps prevent further escalation of tensions.
