Pezeshkian: Iraq’s Election Results Reflect the Genuine Will of Its People

In a Friday phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the recent parliamentary election results in Iraq demonstrated “the genuine will of the Iraqi people.”

Iran (IMNA) - Pezeshkian congratulated al-Sudani on the successful and peaceful conduct of the elections, describing the achievement as one that enhances the prestige and greatness of the brotherly Arab nation. He also expressed hope that relations and cooperation between Iran and Iraq would further deepen and grow more cordial across all sectors in the new term. The Iranian president highlighted the electoral process as a clear testament to the democratic values embraced by the Iraqi people.

Prime Minister al-Sudani thanked President Pezeshkian for his call and warm congratulations, calling them a reflection of the deep and sincere ties between the two countries. He noted that this election was the sixth held since Iraq’s political transformation in 2003 and praised its transparency, calm atmosphere, and overall success.

Al-Sudani emphasized that the most notable outcome was the highest public participation since 2015, demonstrating increased trust in Iraq’s political system. He said the Iraqi people once again affirmed their commitment to the democratic experience they have cultivated and expressed hope that the results would contribute positively to Iraq’s progress and development in the coming years.

The Iraqi prime minister also reaffirmed his commitment to expanding bilateral and regional cooperation with Iran in all fields during the upcoming term.
