Iran (IMNA) - Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, Araghchi responded to Trump’s accusations that Iran supports insecurity in the region by calling the narrative “deceptive.”
Araghchi asserted that it is the United States, through over forty years of sanctions, military and non-military pressures, and threats, that has hindered Iran’s progress and is responsible for the country’s economic difficulties. He emphasized that America’s hegemonic policies, rather than Iran’s actions, are the root cause of Iran’s hardships. The Iranian foreign minister further condemned the US for ignoring Israeli threats and crimes in the region while portraying Iran as the main threat.
Araghchi’s remarks came amid ongoing indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States, with Iran working to keep regional partners such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE informed to foster regional understanding and stability.
The Iranian government continues to insist its nuclear program is peaceful, while the US maintains pressure through sanctions and diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring baseless claims of nuclear weapons.
