Iran Sets Conditions for Resuming Nuclear Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outlined Tehran's stance on resuming nuclear negotiations, emphasizing diplomacy while condemning threats from the United States.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at a Nowruz ceremony on Saturday evening, attended by Iranian officials and foreign diplomats, Araghchi reiterated Iran’s commitment to peaceful dialogue but stressed that any negotiations must be conducted under equitable conditions.

Araghchi described Iran’s response to a recent letter from the U.S. president as “responsible and prudent,” reflecting the tone of the message while keeping diplomatic channels open. However, he criticized direct talks with a party that “continuously threatens to use force” in violation of the UN Charter, deeming such negotiations “meaningless.” Instead, he expressed Iran’s readiness for indirect discussions to resolve disputes.

Highlighting the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, Araghchi stated that Tehran had previously implemented voluntary measures under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to build international trust. He blamed the U.S. for unilaterally withdrawing from the agreement and reimposing sanctions, which undermined the accord.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran is prepared to resume negotiations based on mutual confidence-building and the removal of sanctions. “We are serious about diplomacy but equally resolute in defending our national interests and sovereignty,” he declared.

The foreign minister also warned that threats and contradictory actions by U.S. officials complicate the situation, urging all parties to uphold international law and foster a constructive atmosphere for talks.
