Iran (IMNA) - His remarks came in response to escalating tensions following U.S. President Donald Trump's threats of military action against Iran.
Addressing reporters on Friday, Peskov emphasized, "We believe that the issue of Iran's nuclear dossier should be resolved exclusively through political and diplomatic means. All sides should exercise absolute restraint and focus precisely on diplomatic efforts when discussing all issues." He reiterated Russia’s position as an ally of Iran, highlighting the multifaceted relations between Moscow and Tehran despite Russia's ongoing efforts to restore ties with Washington.
The comments follow President Trump's ultimatum to Tehran, warning of additional tariffs and potential bombing if Iran refuses to negotiate its nuclear program. Trump had previously offered direct talks with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which were rejected by Tehran. Iranian officials have since issued strong warnings of swift retaliation against any attack.
Peskov underscored Russia's commitment to diplomacy, stating that Moscow is prepared to facilitate dialogue between Washington and Tehran. He noted that Iran’s nuclear activities remain within the framework of international law and reiterated its right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy.
