Iran Sets New Record in Sweet Gas Production Amid Cold Wave

Iran has achieved a new daily record in sweet gas production, reaching 870 million cubic meters (mcm), as a severe cold wave continues to drive up demand for heating nationwide.

Iran (IMNA) - The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) reported that this record output was injected into the country's pipeline network. On the consumption side, households, businesses, and small industries used about 606 mcm of the supply, marking a 10% increase from the same period last year. Iranian power plants accounted for 149 mcm of this consumption.

The surge in demand comes as Iran grapples with a cold snap that has prompted government offices, schools, and banks to close temporarily in Tehran and other cities to conserve energy and prevent disruptions to power supplies. Earlier this month, Iran's sour gas production exceeded 1 billion cubic meters per day, with significant contributions from the South Pars gas field, which is the world's largest and shared with Qatar. Despite these production milestones, Iran continues to face challenges in meeting its rising energy demands, particularly during extreme weather conditions.
