Iran (IMNA) - Baghaei expressed his disapproval in a message posted on X, following Trump's recent comments advocating for the relocation of Palestinians to "clean out" the war-torn region.
Baghaei criticized the notion of "cleaning out" Gaza, characterizing it as part of a broader plan for the "colonial annihilation" of the Palestinian people, which he claims has been supported by American military resources and financial backing. He emphasized that the ongoing Israeli campaign against Palestinians, which has lasted over 15 months, has not succeeded in displacing them, stating, "This is their homeland and they've paid an extremely high price to remain there and continue their heroic struggle for self-determination and freedom."
Trump's remarks came despite strong opposition from both Egypt and Jordan, who have labeled the proposal as "ethnic cleansing." The U.S. president suggested that relocating up to 1.5 million Palestinians could lead to peace in West Asia if neighboring Arab nations agree to accept them. In earlier statements, Trump described Gaza as a "demolition site," indicating his belief that significant changes are necessary for the region.
Jordan's government reiterated its rejection of Trump's plan, asserting that national security dictates that Palestinians must remain on their land. The situation in Gaza remains dire, with over 2.4 million residents largely displaced since October 2023 due to extensive violence that has resulted in over 47,300 Palestinian deaths, predominantly among women and children.
As discussions about Trump's proposal continue, analysts warn that any efforts to relocate displaced Palestinians could provide justification for further expulsions and the repopulation of Gaza with Israeli settlers.
