Russia, Iran Discuss Expansion of Nuclear Power Cooperation with New Units at Bushehr Plant

Russia and Iran are advancing discussions on the construction of additional nuclear power units, as confirmed by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a press conference following his meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Iran (IMNA) - Putin emphasized the significance of their ongoing nuclear energy project, stating, "We have a huge project in nuclear energy. One unit is already operating, and it is operating successfully. We are now discussing the possibility of building additional units." He acknowledged some delays due to calculations and payments but reassured that progress is being made, with thousands already employed at the facilities and approximately 80% of construction work being conducted by local companies.

In his remarks, Putin highlighted that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project is crucial for enhancing Iran's energy security, providing affordable and eco-friendly electricity to local businesses and households. He noted, "Energy is the most important area of Russian-Iranian cooperation," asserting that the construction of two new units at Bushehr by Rosatom will significantly bolster Iran's energy infrastructure and stimulate its economy.

The discussions come as both nations strengthen their strategic partnership, with a focus on energy cooperation amidst regional tensions.
