Iran's Foreign Minister Signals Readiness for Nuclear Negotiations

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has declared that Tehran is prepared to engage in constructive negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement concerning its nuclear program. In an exclusive interview with China's CCTV on Friday, Araghchi emphasized the importance of renewed talks and stated, "We are ready to enter into constructive negotiations without delay."

Iran (IMNA) - He reiterated that the framework for these negotiations would align with the previous Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) formula, which focuses on building trust regarding Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. "For more than two years, we negotiated with the 5+1 countries in good faith and finally we managed to reach an agreement that the whole world accepted and admired as an achievement of diplomacy," he noted.

Araghchi criticized the United States for its withdrawal from the JCPOA, describing it as a "very big strategic mistake" that prompted Iran to respond with increased nuclear activities. He pointed out that while Iran implemented the nuclear deal with good intentions, it was the U.S. that exited without justification and subsequently expanded sanctions.

Looking ahead, he mentioned that a round of negotiations has already taken place with European countries, with a second round scheduled within the next two weeks. He also indicated that Iran's decisions would be influenced by the policy direction of the incoming Trump administration.

The ongoing discussions between Iran and European nations have been intermittent since 2018 when the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the historic nuclear accord and reinstated sanctions against Iran. In response to the failure of other parties to uphold their commitments under the deal, Tehran has taken steps to advance its nuclear program further.

In addition to addressing nuclear issues, Araghchi commented on regional matters, stating that "the future of the resistance is bright," referring to Hezbollah's rebuilding efforts. He also expressed Iran's support for any agreements reached independently by Hamas and Palestinian factions.

Regarding Syria's evolving situation after the Assad government's decline, he remarked that Iran's decisions will not be swayed by external influences but will instead wait for a stable transitional government to clarify its policies before proceeding.
