Iran and Armenia Forge Barter Trade Agreement Amid Economic Cooperation Talks

Iran and Armenia have signed a barter trade agreement during the Eurasian Economic Union meeting in Yerevan. The agreement was finalized following a meeting between Iranian Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade, Mohammad Atabek, and Armenian Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan.

Iran (IMNA) - The discussions focused on removing financial and banking barriers, facilitating guarantees for Iranian contractors in Armenia, and addressing customs restrictions. Papoyan announced the Armenian government's decision to invest in Iran's Chabahar Port, emphasizing the importance of establishing a commercial center for Iran in Armenia. He also requested support for setting up an Armenian business center in Iran.

Atabek attended the meeting with a delegation that included the head of the Trade Development Organization and around 100 representatives from various Iranian companies. The event featured discussions on enhancing commercial, economic, and industrial cooperation.

Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union had previously established a preferential trade agreement in 2018, which currently applies to approximately 862 commodity items with preferential tariffs. A Free Trade Agreement was also signed during the EAEU Summit in St. Petersburg in December 2023.
