Iran to Hold Joint Naval Exercises in Indian Ocean Within Weeks

A senior Iranian military official has announced that the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy will conduct joint naval exercises with foreign forces in the northern Indian Ocean in the near future.

Iran (IMNA) - Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, Chief of the Iranian Navy, disclosed to IRIB News Agency on Tuesday that the exercises will involve Iranian naval units and counterparts from "a dozen countries." The maneuvers will commence before the end of the current Iranian calendar year, which concludes on March 19.

Speaking about Iran's naval presence in international waters, Admiral Irani noted that Iranian ships have been deployed since 2009. He did not provide further details on the countries that will participate in the upcoming exercises or the specific location within the Indian Ocean where they will take place.

The Iranian Navy has maintained its presence in international waters since 2009 to ensure the security of maritime trade routes and protect merchant ships and oil tankers, according to a statement from the commander.

Commander Irani said that Iranian naval units have been patrolling the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea, safeguarding the country's interests in these strategic waters.

Iranian forces have been providing security for Iranian-owned or leased vessels, as well as those of other nations, and they have also responded to distress calls from foreign commercial ships."

The Iranian Navy's presence in international waters has aided in maintaining stability and preventing maritime incidents, the commander noted.

Additionally, the Iranian Navy has conducted joint military drills with various countries, including Russia, China, and Pakistan, to enhance combat readiness. These exercises aim to strengthen cooperation and exchange operational and tactical experiences.

The naval forces have actively participated in efforts to counter maritime terrorism, exchanging information and collaborating in rescue and relief operations. Their efforts have contributed to the security of international maritime trade and promoted regional stability.
