Saudi delegation to attend an environmental conference in Iran

According to the announcement made by Iran's embassy in Saudi Arabia on a social media platform, a delegation representing Saudi Arabia will participate in the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms.

Iran (IMNA) - The conference is taking place in Tehran, the capital city of Iran. The embassy stated that this participation follows the normalization of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi delegation departed for Tehran on Saturday, September 9. This conference aims to address the issue of sand and dust storms, which can have severe environmental and health impacts. By participating in this event, Saudi Arabia shows its commitment to addressing this shared challenge and engaging in regional cooperation.

The Iranian delegation from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts will be attending the 45th meeting of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee in Riyadh. This event aims to discuss and promote the preservation of cultural and natural heritage sites around the world. Additionally, the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms commenced in Tehran and will conclude on Sunday. During the conference, Iran's President Ebrahim Raeisi emphasized the significance of environmental protection and expressed his hope that the event will foster collaborative efforts and strategic planning in addressing this pressing issue.

With nearly 50 countries and 15 international organizations participating in this event, Raeisi hailed it as a testament to the shared sentiment for environmental preservation. He emphasized that environmental protection should not be swayed by political considerations or mere diplomatic pleasantries. Decisions made in this realm must be regarded as vital and diligently pursued.

Raeisi put forth three proposals from Iran to effectively combat sand and dust storms. Firstly, he advocated harnessing the potential of scientific and research institutions to tackle these challenges. Secondly, he proposed the establishment of a dedicated fund to support development projects addressing this issue. Lastly, he called for the creation of cultural and media initiatives to raise awareness and promote sustainable practices.

By adopting these measures, Iran aims to confront sand and dust storms head-on, demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship and global collaboration.
