Iran welcomed more than 4 million tourists by 2022

The United Nations World Tourism Organization estimates that 4.1 million travelers traveled to Iran in 2022, an increase of 315% over the previous year.

Iran (IMNA) - According to Financial Tribune, the massive increase in tourism may be partially linked to the broad relaxation of worldwide prophylactic measures implemented in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The number, meanwhile, pales in contrast to 2019, which had 9.11 million visitors, the highest number of arrivals in recent years.

Iran welcomed more than 4 million tourists by 2022

In accordance with UNWTO data, the pandemic and the imposition of sanctions against Iran are to blame for the decline in arrival trends that began after a record-breaking year in 2019 and continued through 2021.

Since the overall number of foreign visitor visits peaked at 1.46 billion in 2019, the rise in Iran really mirrors a global pattern. The population fell to 406.89 million in 2020, increased to 455.77 million the next year, and then increased again to 962.8 million the previous year.
