Isfahan eyes 1,000 MW solar park

Sunny Isfahan is the perfect choice for urban authorities seeking the savings associated with solar energy while reducing carbon footprints.

Iran (IMNA) - Isfahan is an excellent place for residential solar panels as it receives an impressive amount of sunlight, with almost six peak hours during the winter—which climbs to nearly eight during the long summer months.

Referring to the operation of Isfahan’s solar power plant by mid-2023, Director General of Isfahan’s Governorate Department for Emergency Management Mansour Shishe-Foroush said, "by launching this solar station, a part of electricity generation capacity in Isfahan province will be supplied. "

Stating that the matter of using renewable sources like solar energy in generating electricity is on the agenda due to the climatic conditions of the province, Shishe-Foroush told IMNA that following the construction and operation of 1,000-megawatt solar power plants in the near future, the electrical generation capacity of the province will be increased.

Regarding the studies and evaluations focusing on the feasibility of the operation of the largest concentrated solar power plant in Isfahan, he added, "the 600 MW solar power complex in Koohpayeh County backed by the Mobarakeh Steel Company, alongwith other 450 MW photovoltaic power stations in the province's considered areas financed by multiple companies will be run."

Given Isfahan’s geographical and climatic features, Shishe-Foroush Noted that the province enjoys more sunshine all year round than some other Iranian provinces and emphasized, "we urge the Ministry of Energy and Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (known as Tavanir) to carry out the necessary follow-ups in order to meet the electricity shortage in the province, and also support the investors so that they could take measures regarding the operational projects. "

Shishe-Foroush noted, "Electricity generation from solar energy is not only effective in reducing emissions caused by burning of fossil fuels, but also justifiable in terms of usage. "
