Iran (IMNA) - Saying that city officials do not expect the Diplomat Citizen Action Plan to get fully implemented in a few months, the Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Isfahan Alireza Salarian noted, "Given the priorities, citizen diplomat is a long-term project that will be implemented with the target cities."
He continued, "At this point in time, when we are facing the tough restrictions to stamping out the coronavirus outbreak, cooperation and communication with sister cities have not been cut off. For example, there have always been interactions between Isfahan and the city of Xi'an in China; two shipments of humanitarian aid from this Chinese city were delivered to Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. Also during the past months, a webinar was held to transfer the experiences of the Coronavirus containment between the mayors of Freiburg and Isfahan, as well as the municipality and the University of Isfahan and the officials of St. Petersburg universities."
The Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Isfahan further reminded, "At this stage, a plan has been proposed with the focus on the Municipality of Isfahan and with the cooperation of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish relations with ECO member cities, which will be based on cultural affinities of Iran's neighboring countries. To implement this action plan, meetings were held with the officials of the office for the ECO Cultural Institute in Isfahan, and it was ordained to hold a number of cultural events with the cooperation of this institute."
Salarian pointed out, "In the first step, a quarterly newsletter was prepared and published with the aim of introducing Isfahan to the ECO member countries; Also, the celebration of Nowruz is one of the other proposed programs that will be implemented if the necessary grounds are provided."
