Isfahan taken steps forward towards bike friendly city

This year, with the further follow-up measures by the mayor of Isfahan and the approval of the City’s Traffic Council, 777 km safe and standard cycling routes will be developed in this metropolis, a major step that can be effective to maintain public health, reduce traffic problems and air pollution.

Iran (IMNA) - with the aim of developing human-centered mobility, including walking and cycling, the municipality of Isfahan, in addition to increasing pedestrian paths in the city, has put a large cycling network on the agenda to pave the way for promoting the bike riding culture among citizens.

With a serious determination to achieve this goal, the Deputy Office for Transportation and Traffic at the municipality of Isfahan has identified suitable routes in 15 municipal areas that after final approval, they will be put into service for bicycles.

Of the 777 km of cycling route intended for this objective, 300 km will be highly standard with a width of two meters, which will be retrofitted in the form of one-way and two-way routes with bike lane curbs.

55 kms of the new second-class city bike lanes with markings and traffic signs on the right side of the streets, 35 kms of the third-grade lanes along the sidewalks and 30 kms of the fourth-class tracks in special bus routes will be constructed.

According to the plans, a large part of the new bicycle routes will be implemented in the city by the end of this year, and the remaining will be realized by 1400 H.S. 42 kms of bicycle paths have been constructed in Isfahan so far, which need to be improved for standardization; the municipality hopes that such measures will create a great change in the city.
