Iran Foreign Ministry Condemns US Strike on Larak Island

Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Monday strongly condemned a U.S. military strike on Larak Island, describing it as a clear violation of the UN Charter and stating that U.S. military bases in Jordan were targeted by Iran in self-defense.

Iran (IMNA) – In a statement issued Monday morning, the ministry said U.S. forces attacked parts of Larak Island on Sunday evening, violating Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The attack resulted in the martyrdom and injury of several Iranian military personnel and civilians and caused damage to public and private property, it said.

The ministry said Iran’s armed forces, exercising their inherent right to self-defense, carried out “defensive and crushing blows” against U.S. military bases in Jordan, which it described as the source and support of the U.S. military aggression against Iran.

It strongly condemned the U.S. attack on Larak Island as a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and reminded the UN Security Council and Secretary-General of their responsibility to safeguard international peace and security and hold the aggressor accountable.

The ministry also told the UN Secretary-General, the Security Council president, and governments that had expressed concern over insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz that the sole cause of unsafe shipping routes in the region was “the illegal and aggressive actions of the United States and the Zionist regime.”

According to the statement, those actions began with the attack on Iran on February 28 and continued for six months through the naval blockade and other provocative and interventionist measures.

The ministry stressed that Iran’s armed forces “will not hesitate to exercise the inherent right of self-defence” and will respond decisively and appropriately to any enemy military aggression.

It further said full responsibility for the consequences of new U.S. aggressive actions, the continued naval blockade and the economic war against Iran rests with the “American regime” and all parties involved in preparing and carrying out what it described as America’s illegal actions.
