The planet is suffering from overshoot, a consequence of our development ambitions. With the construction of every building, factory, and new mega-project, we are wasting Earth's resources more than can be restored. The development of modern civilizations is accompanied by a growing ecological debt that nature can not repay any longer. A sustainable future will be created only when cities start using preservation rather than consumption as their measure of success.
