Millions of Shia Muslims across the world are celebrating the auspicious birth anniversary of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Imam of the Household of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S), whose sanctuary in the holy city of Mashhad has become the radiant heart of festivities marking this joyous occasion.
Iran (IMNA) – The birth anniversary of Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (AS), known as the "Compassionate Imam" and "Guarantor of the Deer," falls on the final day of the blessed Ten Days of Dignity (Dahe-ye Keramat)—a period beginning with the birth anniversary of Hazrat Fatimah Masoumeh (SA) and culminating in celebrations for Imam Reza (AS).
Holy Shrine Adorned in Splendor
In Mashhad, the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) has been magnificently illuminated and adorned with colorful lights, vibrant flowers, flags, and banners commemorating the event, creating a festive atmosphere that has transformed the city. Pilgrims, often overwhelmed by devotion, have gathered in the courtyards of the shrine, engaging in prayer, songs of praise, and joyful celebrations of the Imam’s birth.
The shrine's surrounding areas are filled with increased social services, including medical support with additional ambulances and emergency units, as well as charity projects aimed at helping the needy. These initiatives include construction projects in rural areas and efforts to provide hearing aids to students in need.
Historical and Spiritual Significance
Imam Reza (AS), whose full name is Ali ibn Musa al-Reza, is revered as a pivotal figure in Islamic history. According to historical accounts, his forced journey from Medina to Khorasan during his lifetime resulted in extraordinary blessings for the school of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).
The late Leader of the Islamic Revolution emphasized that Imam Reza (AS) played a crucial role in preserving and spreading the message of Ashura and Imam Hussein (AS) throughout the Islamic world. One of the Imam's most famous narrations—"If you want to weep, weep for Hussein (AS)"—highlighted the importance of Karbala and established the struggle against oppression as central to Shia identity.
As the festivities continue, pilgrims from across Iran and beyond have converged on Mashhad, their voices rising in angelic praises, their hearts filled with devotion to the eighth Imam who once said: "The Day of Judgment, you will be united with us and you will be at our side".
