The IONS 2024 joint naval exercise concluded on Sunday with a spectacular naval parade featuring participating surface vessels.
Iran (IMNA) - Rear Admiral Mustafa Tajeddini, spokesperson for the Iranian Navy, announced that the Iranian destroyer Jamaran was the centerpiece of this display of maritime strength in the northern Indian Ocean.
Vessels from the Islamic Republic of Iran's Navy, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps Navy, and navies from Russia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Pakistan, Qatar, and Bangladesh participated in the parade. The exercise, officially known as the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) Maritime Exercise (IMEX) 2024, was organized by Iran within its southern maritime territory.
Beginning on October 19, 2024, the exercise involved naval forces and observers from various IONS member states. Its primary objective was to enhance sustainable collective security and foster multilateral cooperation in the region.
During the event, military and naval representatives toured Hormuz Island, engaging in strategic discussions. Delegates from Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Pakistan, Qatar, Oman, and Bangladesh visited the island in the Persian Gulf to explore Iran's tourism and maritime infrastructure. This visit aimed to promote international collaboration and showcase Iran's tourism potential while fostering amicable relations and military partnerships among participating nations.
The meeting served as a platform for enhancing collaboration in protecting regional interests and identifying future avenues for partnerships in maritime security. Hormuz Island's strategic location in the Strait of Hormuz is critical due to its significance as a major passage for global oil supply.
