Iran's Chief of Staff, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian diplomatic facilities in Damascus as an act of lunacy and suicide.
Iran (IMNA) - Baqeri's statement came during the funeral ceremony of Major General Mohammad Reza Zahedi in Isfahan, where mourners chanted "Down with Israel!" and "Down with the United States!"
Zahedi was among seven military advisors of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) who were martyred in the Israeli airstrikes on the Consular Section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus's Mezzeh neighborhood. Baqeri described the attack as a sign of the Zionist regime's desperation and vowed to retaliate with the help of Iranian forces.
The top Iranian commander also warned that the United States holds the main responsibility for the attack and should be held accountable. Israel's bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus occurred on April 1st, with six missiles targeting the building adjacent to the embassy.
Iran's Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, stated that Israel will face consequences for its aggression. Baqeri emphasized that the resistance against Israel is alive and will continue until the complete destruction of the occupying regime.
