Iran (IMNA) - Laylat al-Qadr, or the Night of Destiny, is a night of prayer when the holy Qur'an says angels descend on earth to fulfill requests. It is also the night when Prophet Mohammad received the Holy Qur'an. (Peace be upon Him.) Muslims stay vigil at mosques on Laylat al-Qadr, making wishes and soliciting God's forgiveness for their misdeeds. One of the rituals observed on the Night of Destiny is the recitation of the Jawshan al-Kabir prayer, through which devotees address God by his various names and attributes, seeking his pardon. There is no specific date for the Night of Destiny, although all Islamic texts agree that it falls on one of three nights during the holy month of Ramadan: the 19th, 21st, or 23rd. Every year during the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world gather in mosques and shrines to worship. Last night was the first Laylat al-Qadr, and Iranian Muslims continued to pray till dawn.
