The night of Ashura, marking the anniversary of Imam Hussain’s martyrdom, in Iran is called Shaam-e Ghariban, meaning “the night of the oppressed”. Muslim Mourners light candles in holy places especially in public drinking places calling Sagha Khanes that represent the symbolic sites where Imam Hussain and his companions could slake their thirst.
