The twinning agreement between Isfahan and Porto was signed by Ghodratollah Norouzi, the mayor of Isfahan, and Rui Moreira ,the mayor of Porto.
Isfahan (IMNA) - "We hope that the next city board of directors will be able to fully seize the opportunity to spring up Isfahan's relations with other cities across the world, promote the welfare of the people and boost the tourism industry so that number of Isfahan's sister cities will be further increased in the future," the mayor of Isfahan said.
"This sister city agreement has been realized at the suggestion of the Iranian embassy to Portugal; Porto is now recognized as the 15th sister city of Isfahan, and after that, with the signing of the long-term partnership between Isfahan and India's Hyderabad, the 16th sister city of Isfahan will be determined," Ghodratollah Norouzi said during the signing ceremony of the twinning agreement between Isfahan and Porto.
Adding that both cities have a great deal in common, he noted, "Registration of the historical heritage of both cities in UNESCO has made Isfahan and Porto perfect tourist attractions. "
The mayor of Isfahan pointed out, "City - twinning is a contract concluded between two municipalities that provides grounds for interaction between the two cities; all universities, sports clubs and cultural centers of the sister cities can interact with each other within this contract."
Norouzi added, "This memorandum of understanding acts as a facilitator for all walks of life who want to play roles between the two cities in different areas, so from now on we can transfer our experiences to broaden relations between Isfahan and Porto."
He continued, " Porto is the best start-up friendly city of Europe 2018; Isfahan has done a pretty good job in recent years to develop knowledge-based companies, which can be considered as one of the areas of cooperation."
The mayor of Isfahan added, "under the auspices of the Iran-Portugal Friendship Association, a cultural week can be held in both cities like what we have organized in other Isfahan's sisters cities."
The mayor of Isfahan invited the mayor of Porto to visit the beautiful and historic city of Isfahan as it is an important world city in various fields, and emphasized, "I hope the sister city agreement between the two cities would be a blessing for both cities. "
