The piloting process will officially begin after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the municipalities of the pilot cities and the Ministry of Interior.

Isfahan was selected as a pilot city for UNICEF Child-Friendly City Initiative ( CFCI) in 2018 in the wake of a performance evaluation. During this period, the Municipality of Isfahan was able to compile a report on the situation of children and perform an executive action plan under 10 steps in this field through the interaction of stakeholders. Against this background, the city of Isfahan was awarded the UNICEF CFCI logo in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and UNICEF.

"Currently, 58 countries (compared to 40 in 2019) are implementing the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative in cooperation with UNICEF at various levels; however, we still need to know what is a child-friendly city. A Child Friendly City is where the voices, needs, priorities and rights of children are an integral part of public policies, programmes and decisions," said UNICEF Representative to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ms. Mandeep O'Brien.

She continued, "Today, we have gathered to celebrate the extremely important step in turning Isfahan into a more child-friendly city, and pave the way to expand the initiative. with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation among the Ministry of Interior, UNICEF representative office in Iran and the municipality, Isfahan is recognized as the first city in Iran to join the global network of child-friendly cities as a candidate and receives the CFCI logo; This means that Isfahan is responsible for improving the well-being of children, especially the most vulnerable ones.
