Iran (IMNA) - The Damask rose, growing to 2.2 meters tall in shrub shape, is one kind of the oldest members of the rose family.

Damask roses are indigenous to Iran with Kashan being the main hub for about 2,000 years.

Iranians call it Gol-e-Mohammadi as it is believed that the pleasant floral scent smells of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

The tradition of reaping Damask roses is one of the best experience you might want to try.

Farmers gathered in their fields before dawn and carefully pick the petals off the flowers, being sure to leave the buds intact. Then they pile up bundles of petals, singing melodious folk songs that have been handed down by tradition from their ancestors.

The petals are then run under enough distilled water in a copper pot in which the water reaches to a break simmer.
