Muharram is the first month of the Hijri (Islamic) calendar, during which Shia Muslims across the world hold mourning ceremonies over the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and 72 of his loyal companions in the unfair Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

Iran (IMNA) - Coincident with the arrival of the Islamic mourning month of Muharram, the flag of Imam Hossein's (PBUH) Holy Shrine in Karbala province of Iraq was replaced with black one to honor the Master of Martyrs.
