When there weren’t any plastic Sofrehs, cotton Sofrehs were spread around the houses and everyone sits around them to eat.

Isfahan (IMNA) - Weaving - sofreh as an original and traditional art has a long history in Isfahan. Currently only 3 old women artists in Varzaneh village are weaving this kind of Sofreh. Nobody tends to weave traditional sofreh due to the advent of machineries such as powerlooms and other modern textile machines as well as high cost of cotton and failure to produce it.

Also, large number of the weaver community have left the profession as it requires hard labour with little income in return. Therefore, this age-old weaving art is going to end gradually. There are already lots of weavers in many villages throughout Isfahan and now it is frightening that this ancient industry could disappear from the district altogether.
