Iran (IMNA) - Barcelona and Isfahan became sister cities in 2000, and their alliance is born of common cultural values, distinct urban character, and a desire for creativity and innovation. Despite differences in their histories and architecture, both cities work towards modern urban planning, whilst paying considerable respect to ancient buildings, historical gardens and cityscapes.
Their collaboration allows for collaboration and exchanges around urban planning and heritage preservation, water and sustainability, tourism and the arts, education and the sciences, sport, and innovative sectors, helping both cities to draw inspiration from Isfahan’s Islamic-Persian designs, gardens, bridges, Zayandehrud river and from Barcelona’s Catalans modernist buildings, Mediterranean way of life and popular and bustling public areas to inspire a more livable, creatively rewarding, culturally vibrant and sustainable city for everyone.
