Iran UN Mission: US Expansion of Nuclear Arsenal Poses Threat to All Humanity

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna has described the United States’ expanding nuclear arsenal as a threat to all humanity.

Iran (IMNA) - In a message posted on X, the mission said the “painful legacy” of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki remains a stark reminder of the profound human suffering caused by nuclear weapons.

It emphasized that the widespread death and destruction, along with deadly radiation that affected even unborn generations, demonstrate that the only absolute guarantee against a recurrence of such a tragedy is the complete elimination of all nuclear weapons.

The Iranian mission further criticized the United States, noting that it is the only country to have used nuclear weapons and is a Depositary of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). It accused Washington of continuing to expand and modernize its nuclear arsenal while remaining, in Iran’s view, non-compliant with its nuclear disarmament obligations under the treaty for 56 years.

According to the mission, this ongoing expansion leaves humanity living under a continuous nuclear threat.
