Iran (IMNA) - During a phone call with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband on Friday, Araghchi criticised Britain's recent designation of Iran's armed forces and what he described as London's complicity in two imposed wars by the United States and Israel. He said Britain's approach was "unjustified" and called for it to be reconsidered.
Araghchi said the current regional situation had been caused by U.S. and Israeli military aggression against Iran. He added that the Islamic Republic had participated in the diplomatic process in good faith and had reached a ceasefire memorandum on June 18, but the United States had again violated its commitments and prevented its implementation.
He also stressed Iran's determination to establish operational mechanisms with Oman to manage shipping transit through the Strait of Hormuz, warning that interference by third parties would only further complicate the situation.
Citing international law and the resolution on the definition of aggression, Araghchi said that allowing aggressor states to use a country's territory or facilities to launch an illegal attack against another country constitutes an act of aggression and gives the targeted country the right to exercise legitimate self-defence.
For his part, Miliband said Britain was not part of the war with Iran and remained committed to resolving issues through diplomacy. He also emphasised the importance of continuing diplomatic engagement with Iran to improve bilateral relations and help reduce regional tensions.
