Iran (IMNA) - Speaking during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Kyrgyzstan on Friday, Araghchi discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, including political, economic, trade, transport, and energy cooperation, as well as coordination within international organizations and multilateral frameworks such as the SCO and BRICS.
The two ministers also agreed to pursue the implementation of previously reached understandings between Tehran and Moscow.
Addressing developments in West Asia, Araghchi expressed appreciation for Russia’s “principled positions” in condemning the U.S. and Israeli military aggression against Iran. He said the current insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz was the direct result of what he described as U.S. “bad faith and crimes,” adding that although Iran had demonstrated its commitment to diplomacy in the process leading to the ceasefire agreement, it remained firmly committed to defending its national security and preventing Washington from exploiting the strategic waterway to threaten the country.
Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s condemnation of the U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran and underscored the importance of cooperation and confidence-building among regional countries to establish a regional security mechanism. He also expressed Russia’s readiness to provide any assistance in support of that objective.
