Iran (IMNA) - The atmosphere in Minab was steeped in grief and remembrance as families of the martyrs, local residents, and provincial officials converged for a funeral ceremony. The event served as a solemn reaffirmation of allegiance to the ideals of the young victims, whose classroom was transformed into a site of tragedy. Following the funeral, the recovered fragments were laid to rest at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Minab.
Over the course of several weeks of intensive search operations at the Shajareh Tayyebeh school site and its perimeter, recovery teams unearthed 62 fragments of remains. Subsequent DNA testing confirmed that these fragments belonged to 32 of the student victims. Despite the sustained and meticulous efforts at the school and surrounding areas, authorities confirmed that no trace has yet been found of the missing remains of Makan, a seven-year-old student who remains the only unaccounted-for victim of the incident.
The attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh elementary school occurred on the opening day of the US-Israeli bombing campaign, with a missile striking the school in the city of Minab, Hormozgan province, at approximately 10:45 a.m. local time—during peak classroom hours. The strike resulted in the martyrdom of up to 168 people, marking one of the deadliest single events of the conflict and drawing widespread international condemnation.
Video footage from the ceremony captures the emotional scenes, showing the public carrying the newly-identified remains and mourners paid their final respects to the victims of what is regarded as one of the most tragic contemporary human incidents.
