Iran (IMNA) - In a statement, the Army's public relations office said the operation was carried out as part of "Operation Thunderbolt" and followed six previous waves of drone attacks on U.S. positions. The military said the strikes came in response to what it described as the United States' violation of a ceasefire and the start of "brutal attacks" on Iranian territory.
The statement said that "soldiers of the nation in the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly cement the great lesson and strategic message of the martyred leader of the revolution to the enemy," referring to a warning attributed to the late Leader that "the era of hit and run is over" and that any action against Iran's land, waters, or airspace "will not go unanswered or without proportionate cost."
The Iranian Army added that its operations would continue until what it described as "final victory."
