Millions of Iraqis Attend Funeral Procession for Ayatollah Khamenei in Najaf

Millions of Iraqis gathered in the holy city of Najaf on Wednesday to participate in the funeral procession of Iran's martyred Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Iran (IMNA) - The procession started at al-Kufa Bridge and moved toward the shrine of Imam Ali, one of the holiest sites in Shia Islam, as massive crowds filled the route. Video footage from the event showed millions of mourners taking part in the procession.

Iraqi authorities and volunteers, drawing on their experience in organizing large-scale religious pilgrimages, made extensive preparations for the ceremonies, which are also scheduled to be held in Karbala.

The funeral ceremonies moved to Iraq following several days of nationwide commemorations in Iran, where millions of mourners attended funeral events in Tehran and Qom.

The late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, was assassinated in the February 28 U.S.-Israeli attack alongside members of his family and senior officials. Iraqi authorities had coordinated with Tehran on the funeral arrangements, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi traveling to Baghdad last month as part of those preparations.
