Iran (IMNA) - In a statement issued on Friday, the IRGC Navy confirmed that its reprisal specifically "targeted the deployment sites of the US terrorist military in the region." The force characterized the American airstrikes—which targeted locations along Iran’s coastline—as part of a consistent U.S. "pattern of breaching its commitments."
According to the IRGC statement, Washington justified its offensive using "various pretexts, including the passage of a non-compliant vessel through an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz." The aggression followed a report from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), which acknowledged carrying out attacks against targets inside Iran.
CENTCOM, which oversees U.S. forces deployed to the West Asia region, alleged that its strikes were in response to a Thursday drone attack against a Singapore-flagged cargo vessel, the MV Ever Lovely. The U.S. military claimed the incident occurred as the vessel was departing the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast.
The Islamic Republic has consistently rejected allegations of targeting non-military objects and has previously warned that attempts to implicate Iran in such attacks may constitute "false flag" operations.
The IRGC Navy further asserted that the United States has sought to violate its commitments under a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two sides "through various provocations." The force stated that its retaliation served as "the necessary response" and warned that "the same will apply to any future violations." The statement added, "Should this aggression be repeated, our response will be broader than this."
The MoU was preceded by a ceasefire announced on April 7 by U.S. President Donald Trump amid ongoing American-Israeli military actions against Iran. Following that announcement, the IRGC noted that the United States repeatedly violated the ceasefire, each time facing what it described as determined Iranian reprisal.
