Qalibaf Reaffirms Commitment to Iran’s Martyrs

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf arrived in Zurich, Switzerland, on Saturday at the head of a delegation tasked with pursuing the implementation of commitments contained in the Pakistan-mediated memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently signed between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States.

Iran (IMNA) - In a post on X upon his arrival, Qalibaf reaffirmed his commitment to those martyred during what he described as the latest unprovoked US-Israeli aggression, saying that he regarded “the innocent children of Minab and all the martyrs of our beloved Iran as constant witnesses” to his actions and conduct.

Referring to the southern Iranian city of Minab, where 168 people, including schoolchildren, were martyred following the US and Israeli attacks launched on February 28, Qalibaf said, “They see us and have expectations of us.” He added, “God willing, I will not be ashamed before the innocent martyrs and the people of Iran.”

The post included a photograph of the speaker disembarking from the aircraft carrying the delegation, which has been named “Minab 168” in commemoration of the victims.

The delegation, which also includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, is expected to hold discussions on the implementation of obligations agreed upon by the two sides under the memorandum.

Ahead of the visit, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stressed that the trip should not be interpreted as the beginning of a new round of negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement. He said the visit was primarily intended to demand fulfillment of the other party’s commitments, noting that any understanding or agreement is ultimately tested during the implementation phase.

Baghaei also stated that discussions on a final agreement cannot begin until implementation of several key provisions of the memorandum is underway, adding that such conditions have not yet been met.

The spokesman further expressed concern over continued Israeli military actions against Lebanon, saying they undermine the memorandum’s first clause, which calls for the cessation of aggression on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Separately on Saturday, Iran’s central military command officially announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic, citing what it described as US and Israeli violations of the MoU.
