Iran Says Missile Strikes on Israeli Military Targets Exercised Right of Self-Defense

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that the country’s defensive missile strikes against Israeli military targets in the northern occupied territories were conducted as a legitimate act of self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter following what it described as repeated ceasefire violations by the Israeli regime.

Iran (MNA) – In a statement, the ministry said the strikes were carried out in response to Israel’s continued breaches of the April 8 ceasefire agreement. It cited Israel’s cooperation with the US military in attacks on Iranian ships and targets in southern Iran over the past two weeks, as well as what it described as US-backed maritime piracy against the Iranian nation.

The ministry emphasized that the ceasefire in Lebanon is an inseparable component of the April 8 truce agreement and said the United States bears direct responsibility for Israeli violations and any resulting escalation in the region.

It further warned that any “malicious adventure” by the Zionist regime against Lebanon or Iran would be met with what it called a crushing and comprehensive response from Iran’s armed forces.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates its nation’s serious determination to decisively defend its security and national interests wherever it deems necessary,” the statement said.
