Iran to Unveil New Strait of Hormuz Mechanism with Fees for Specialized Services

Iran has announced a new mechanism to manage maritime traffic through a designated route in the Strait of Hormuz, including the introduction of fees for specialized services, a senior Iranian lawmaker said Saturday.

Iran (IMNA) - Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated on his X account that the system aligns with Iran’s national sovereignty and aims to guarantee international trade security.

“Iran, within the framework of its national sovereignty and the guarantee of international trade security, has prepared a professional mechanism to manage traffic in the Strait of Hormuz along a designated route, which will be unveiled soon,” Azizi said, as reported by Press TV.

According to the lawmaker, the new mechanism will allow passage only to commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran, while remaining closed to operators of what he called the “freedom project.” He reiterated Iran’s policy of banning hostile countries from using the strategic waterway.

“The necessary fees will be collected for the specialized services provided under this mechanism,” Azizi added.
