Iran says diplomacy continues after talks with US in Pakistan

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei says diplomacy will continue following the longest round of negotiations between Iran and the United States in the past year, held in Islamabad.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking in a televised interview on Sunday, Baqaei said, “Diplomacy never ends, and the diplomatic apparatus will continue its work to secure, preserve, and safeguard national interests.”

He noted that the Islamabad talks, which lasted nearly 24 hours continuously, addressed “very complex issues,” including the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional matters.

“It was natural that such issues could not be resolved within nearly 24 hours of negotiations,” he added.

Baqaei said the two sides reached agreements in some areas, but differences remained on key issues, particularly the Strait of Hormuz and regional issues.

He stressed that the talks were held after 40 days of war and several days of ceasefire, “not in an atmosphere of distrust, but in an atmosphere of suspicion.”

The spokesperson also rebuked the United States for committing aggression twice over nine months with the participation of the Israeli regime.

Baqaei thanked the government and people of Pakistan, as well as senior officials, for their efforts and hospitality, and said consultations with Pakistan and friendly neighboring countries will continue.

Top officials of Iran and the United States arrived in Islamabad on Saturday to discuss a permanent end to the US-Israeli war of aggression against the Islamic Republic, days after Tehran and Washington reached a two-week ceasefire.
