Iran (IMNA) - According to Kamal Heydari, Deputy of Cultural affairs at the Isfahan Municipality and Head of the Municipality’s Cultural, Social, and Sports Organization, the attack resulted in substantial damage to both institutions.

The Contemporary Art Museum of Isfahan, also known as "Jebhekhaneh," is part of the historic Safavid Government House complex, which served governmental purposes during the Safavid and Qajar dynasties. Over the past three decades, it has played a vital role in preserving and exhibiting valuable traditional and contemporary artworks, becoming a key cultural and artistic hub in Isfahan. The museum has consistently hosted international art events and exhibitions, attracting prominent artists from Iran and around the world.
Heydari stated that the aerial attack and subsequent explosion caused considerable damage, including significant harm to the building’s unique stucco decorations, door and window carvings, and latticework. The ceiling of the main courtyard and two primary galleries have collapsed, and portions of the interior spaces have been damaged.

Notably, the historic building had recently reopened in the spring following a lengthy period of restoration, and this incident has disrupted its renewed activities and services for artists and citizens.
Highlighting the global significance of cultural heritage, Heydari emphasized that international conventions mandate the protection of cultural and historical sites, particularly those designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites, from any form of aggression during armed conflicts. These sites are often identified and protected with the "Blue Shield" emblem, symbolizing the safeguarding of cultural heritage during wartime.
