Iran Rejects Trump’s Claim on Kharg Island, Says Nation’s Will — Not Foreign Powers — Determines Its Future

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman strongly rejected remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about seizing Kharg Island, saying Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are determined by the will of its people, not by foreign powers.

Iran (IMNA) _ Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, made the remarks on Monday during his weekly press briefing with reporters.

Reacting to Trump’s comments suggesting that the United States seeks control of Kharg Island, Baghaei said: “What determines the future is the will of the Iranian nation, not malicious foreign powers.”

He added that the U.S. president has made similar remarks about other territories, from Greenland to Canada, saying such rhetoric suggests that “the entire world is viewed as valuable real estate and governments are treated like property agencies.”

“In reality,” he said, “countries are formed on the basis of national sovereignty, the will of their peoples, and the right of nations to self-determination.”
