Iran's Navy Maintains 24/7 Surveillance Over Strait of Hormuz

The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said Iran maintains continuous, round-the-clock surveillance over the Strait of Hormuz across surface, aerial, and subsurface domains.

Iran (IMNA) — Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri stated that full 24-hour monitoring of the strategic waterway is carried out as part of the IRGC Navy’s ongoing operational responsibilities. He made the remarks during military drills titled “Defensive Strength and Offensive Operations from the Persian Gulf Islands,” which are being held in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz within the framework of the force’s annual training program.

Tangsiri described Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz as “impregnable fortresses,” emphasizing that defending these islands and securing the vital maritime route fall under the direct responsibility of the IRGC Navy.

According to the commander, the current exercises are focused on ensuring rapid and decisive responses to potential maritime security threats. He noted that IRGC rapid reaction units regularly conduct training to inspect vessels or, when necessary, seize ships suspected of violations, in coordination with other security bodies tasked with protecting maritime transit.

Tangsiri added that surveillance operations in the Strait of Hormuz are comprehensive, covering surface traffic, aerial movements, and subsurface activity. He said the monitoring aims to guarantee safe passage for non-hostile countries whose economic interests rely on the waterway.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Strait, the IRGC Navy commander said more than 80 oil tankers and commercial container ships pass through the route daily, underlining its central role in regional and global trade.
