Launch of Iran’s First IRIB Geostationary Satellite

The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) has successfully launched its first geostationary satellite, “Jam-e Jam 1” (Iran DBS), into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Iran (IMNA) – The satellite was carried into orbit by a Proton-M rocket, marking Iran’s first technical venture into the development and operation of geostationary broadcasting satellites, according to local media reports.

It is expected that in less than three weeks, the satellite will be positioned and stabilized at 34 degrees East longitude. The project’s primary goal is to transmit signals to ground stations and establish the necessary infrastructure for the country’s new interactive broadcasting technology.

Unlike conventional television satellites, the signals of “Jam-e Jam 1” cannot be received through household satellite receivers and require professional, specialized equipment. The satellite is designed to serve as a key infrastructural component in IRIB’s message distribution network.
