Iran Slams EU Resolution Targeting IRGC as Political and Illegal Move Aligned With US, Israel

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei says Iran has responded forcefully at all levels to the European Union’s resolution against the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), stressing that the EU’s action aligns with hostile and intimidating policies pursued by the United States and the Israeli regime.

Iran (IMNA) - Baqaei made the comments on Tuesday during a radio talk show, referring to the summoning of ambassadors from EU member states to protest what he described as the bloc’s illegal and illogical designation of the IRGC.

He explained that over the past two days, the Foreign Ministry has summoned European envoys to formally oppose and file official complaints against the EU’s insulting resolution, which labels a component of Iran’s Armed Forces.

The spokesperson described the move by the 27-member bloc as a political action consistent with the anti-Iran stance of the United States and the Israeli regime, adding that the decision carries no practical value and is ugly, completely illegal, and unjustified.

Emphasizing that summoning ambassadors is a minimal, diplomatic, and lawful step to register protest against another country’s illegal act, Baqaei said no independent nation would tolerate others using inappropriate expressions to describe its armed forces.

He added that a number of additional measures are under review and will be announced once finalized in response to the EU’s move.
